The journey of what to do with the Drummond Island cottage following the passing of beloved folks Rich and Karen Allen. WHY KEEP IT? : Rich/Mr. Allen/Papa/Uncle Dick (to the southern Allen's)/Dad...would want his favorite place to become yours as well. Jeff and Greg decided to hang on to it. After a few years of not using it enough to justify expenses, we chose to enlist a rental agency to sell weeks in hopes of offsetting taxes and insurance. There were mixed reviews on this concept and it just did not feel right. So, here is a new concept that is taking shape. The vision is not to "make money" , but rather to see that those that share the love of the place, gain the right to expose their families and other friends to the vacation that they have been going to for years. This way the cabin see's the use that it needs and with a modest contribution of less than 1/2 of what some members have been paying to the rental companies, this gives this "select" member group the feeling that they can use it freely without feeling they are asking for a favor. We agree that the point is to see it gets used by those that respect and appreciate all of the unique aspects that it has to offer. A delightful bonus with this concept is that our neighbors on both sides do not see an infusion of less than respecting vacationers, and instead will reconnect with those that have a history with Mom and Dad.
